Attracting global attention and creating a must-visit culinary destination

The Dare

Chinese Cuisine has too long been perceived as inexpensive and informal. With the arrival of China Live, the Marketplace, Eight Tables and luxury cocktail lounge Cold Drinks, Glodow Nead not only carried on a positive buzz for several months leading up to a delayed grand opening but continued to carry that buzz years to follow. China Live was the first modern Chinese culinary destination to make its debut in San Francisco and Glodow Nead was responsible for not only a successful opening, but also changing the narrative of Chinese food to an elevated dining experience focusing on using local ingredients and modern techniques while also raising awareness for Chinese culture.

The Scheme

Glodow Nead decided to highlight George Chen as the pioneer and educator in introducing modern Chinese cuisine to the Bay Area and beyond as a spokesperson on the importance of elevating the cuisine and shattering negative previous perceptions. Glodow Nead sought to achieve this by introducing George to local, regional and national press and influencers who in turn embraced his dining concepts and visions. As a result of these efforts, in 2018 China Live’s fine dining concept was recognized as one of TIME Magazine World’s Greatest Places and is known by many today as the West Coast Chinese cuisine version of Eatly.

The Upshot

Since China Live’s grand opening in 2017, Glodow Nead has secured upwards of 800 media placements in local, national, and global outlets resulting in a media value of over $70 million. China Live continues to be a popular destination and George Chen is still the go-to spokesperson for media for speaking on behalf of Chinese cuisine and culture.
